Who do you typically work with?
We serve families, business owners, and professionals with $500,000 or more in investable assets who want a long-term planning partner. Our clients tend to have complex financial situations and value clear, coordinated guidance.
How do you charge for your services?
We primarily offer fee-based advisory services charging a flat fee based on a client’s total assets under advisement. However, if deemed appropriate and in our client’s best interest, we also provide commissioned brokerage services. Though our financial advisor provides clients with great care and recommendations, advisors only have a legal fiduciary obligation to advisory clients.
In a fee-based account, clients pay a quarterly fee, based on the level of assets in the account, for the services of a financial advisor as part of an advisory relationship. In deciding to pay a fee rather than commissions, clients should understand that the fee may be higher than a commission alternative during periods of lower trading. Advisory fees are in addition to the internal expenses charged by mutual funds and other investment company securities. To the extent that clients intend to hold these securities, the internal expenses should be included when evaluating the costs of a fee-based account. Clients should periodically re-evaluate whether the use of an asset-based fee continues to be appropriate in servicing their needs. A list of additional considerations, as well as the fee schedule, is available in the firm’s Form ADV Part 2 as well as the client agreement. Services rendered will be dependent on applicable agreements.
What happens in our first meeting?
A 30- to 45-minute conversation, in person at our Aledo office or by phone. We listen. You share what’s on your mind — your goals, your concerns, what’s been frustrating. We ask questions, explain how we work, and tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
Do you work with clients outside of Parker County?
Yes. While we are based in Aledo and have deep roots in Parker County, Weatherford, and Fort Worth, we also serve clients in other states where Brent and Slaten are properly registered. We’re happy to confirm registration in your state on the first call.
What does “independent” mean for someone working with Gough Wealth Management?
It means we’re not tied to proprietary products or firm-mandated recommendations. We operate as an independent practice under Raymond James Financial Services which gives us access to institutional resources while allowing us to make decisions based entirely on what’s right for each client.
What makes you different from a larger firm or national provider?
You get direct access to your advisors. Brent and Slaten are personally involved in client relationships and are not handing them off to junior staff. Because we operate as a small, dedicated team, you will never feel like an account number.
How often will we meet or talk?
As often as it is useful. We conduct reviews scheduled at your desired frequency to track the progress of your plan relative to your defined objectives and suggest any changes where needed. We may also reach out proactively when something in your plan warrants attention. You should never feel like you have to wait for a scheduled meeting to get an answer.
Can you work with my CPA and estate attorney?
Yes. In fact, we prefer it. Coordinating with your other professionals is one of the most valuable things we do. It helps keep your financial decisions connected and ensures nothing slips through the gaps.
